The government of Puerto Rico announced on Wednesday that it plans to provide free high-speed internet access to more than 300 social housing projects in the United States.

Public housing administrator Alejandro Salgado said almost all units will have internet access by the end of next year under the $ 11.8 million project.

He said an internet connection has become an urgent need, especially for schoolchildren.

Salgado said the service recently debuted in some of the island’s 78 municipalities, including Aguada, Arecibo and Isabela.

The government is also setting up technical education centers in each housing project that provide IT and printing services to residents.
