Pitman Training is already famous for its PA and secretarial courses, but now offers everything from website design and software to hands-on help for people facing post-Covid professional challenges.
And this flexibility is attractive to corporate clients who want to deliver training through Zoom, online learning, face-to-face or through a blended approach.
For Caroline Meikle, Business Development Manager, Covid’s learning curve has taken her business in a rewarding new direction.
“We were really pleasantly surprised with how our tutors and our courses have adapted. The feedback we have had from the company side has been very good. This flexibility works for many; maybe before a course was three days out of the office, now we can offer it over five half days, or some other flexible way that works for their staff.
“And we also see individuals getting a lot out of it. People who were previously in a room with 10 other students find that their voices are heard online, they are not lost in the chatter.
There is strong evidence-based evidence to support Meikle’s opinion that Pitman’s training methods work.
“In accounting and bookkeeping there is a course called AAT, the industry standard pass rate is 50 to 60 percent, and our students are 80 to 85 percent. You can’t put a price on it.
She takes particular pride in web design and software courses, which she says can in some cases condense the equivalent of a four-year degree into a one-year course, allowing students access to well paying jobs without a hefty student loan.
Another market has grown out of them, as people who have lost their jobs or industry to Covid have taken a hit in their confidence and need help with further training, working on their CV or on their cover letters, what their tutors can do.
She added: “The lockdown has taught us all so much. We were closed for three months with each lockdown and then reopened as an essential service. But it has taught us to celebrate all successes.
“For example, we used to celebrate here at Pitman Training, but now, courtesy of the students, we post their successes on our social media, and recognize and celebrate each other’s accomplishments.”
