Technology has evolved a lot since the 90s, so it’s no surprise that we are used to a sleek, simplistic and aesthetic website design. But lurking in the depths of the internet are a number of websites that haven’t yet had their 21st century update – and they’re very funny.
We stumbled across a page called Websites From Hell, which gathered a huge collection of questionable site designs. From pet grooming to car sales, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of these garish sites still in business. Below are a few of our favorites (and if you’re in the mood to build your own, check out our best summary of website builders).
We know the point of The sites of hell is to spot design failures, there is certainly something quite healthy and nostalgic about looking back on old designs. We think the collection is a pretty delicious time capsule, and some of the designs (especially the dog-based ones) are actually quite endearing.
As much as we enjoyed scrolling through these flashy designs, the best websites of the year are much less, shall we say, complicated. But maybe you can use these extravagant designs as a guide on how not to make a website. If you’re building your own website, be sure to check out our roundup of the best web hosting services.
